Environment

The ROTHENBERGER Group endeavours to do its part to protect the environment and stop global warming.

Climate change, the increasing lack of resources, oceans and beaches full of plastic waste show that we humans have put too much strain on the earth. Active commitment to environmental protection is urgently needed to secure the future of our planet. The ROTHENBERGER Group is endeavouring to do its part to protect the environment and stop global warming. To this end, we are increasingly involved in various large and small environmental protection projects.

"What we do today determines what our Group will look like tomorrow!"

Dr Sandra Rothenberger - Member of the Supervisory Board of ROTHENBERGER AG

At ROTHENBERGER, we are increasingly and consistently implementing environmental and climate protection measures. In doing so, we not only assume social responsibility for the preservation of an intact environment, but also invest in our own future viability. Energy-efficient technologies not only increase productivity but also the motivation of our employees. In addition, new environmental technologies and systemic innovations open up new opportunities and new markets.

Photovoltaic systems

Four photovoltaic systems with monocrystalline solar cells have been installed at the ROTHENBERGER site in Kelkheim since 2020. The solar modules on the roofs of the buildings in Kelkheim Fischbach and Kelkheim Münster cover an area of 2,800 square metres.

500 photovoltaic modules have been converting sunlight into electrical energy since August 2021. The photovoltaic systems are estimated to save around 500 tonnes of CO2 per year.

The site in Italy also already uses 75 installed photovoltaic modules to cover part of its energy requirements, with a further 60 modules in the pipeline to cover the entire demand from green energy. Similarly, the Hungarian site is working on making its annual consumption of 34,590 kWh more sustainable by generating its own electricity. In doing so, it saves an average of 269 grams of CO2 per kWh generated, which leads to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

New FORGE+ forging technology at SUPER-EGO as a milestone for sustainability

SUPER-EGO, a ROTHENBERGER Group company, has taken a significant step towards efficiency and sustainability with its FORGE+ round steel forging technology. The investment of several million euros in this innovative technology is paying off by reducing the use of materials and at the same time significantly increasing energy efficiency, quality and productivity.

Thanks to the automation of the forging process, productivity has increased by 40% and energy consumption per kilogramme of product has been reduced by an impressive 70%. The throughput time was drastically reduced from 71 hours to just 2.5 hours. In addition, the mechanical properties of the material are improved, which further increases the quality of the tools.

Around 120 products will be manufactured with FORGE+ by the end of 2023, and the project will enter the next phase from 2024. The aim is to further utilise the potential of this technology in order to increase competitiveness and further improve the company's global footprint.

Smart tools increase sustainability at ROTHENBERGER

ROTHENBERGER has taken an important step towards sustainability and efficiency with the introduction of hybrid tools. Digital features make the products more intelligent and help to save resources. This not only benefits users, but also contributes to environmental protection.

Digitalisation not only includes the tools themselves, but also the company's internal processes. Orders are processed paperlessly and fully automatically, and a future customer portal will manage machine-related documentation centrally. This will increase the added value of the products and simplify work processes for customers.

One example of these innovations is the ROCAM MINI HD, a pipe inspection camera that delivers sharp images in full HD and works more efficiently thanks to a small localisation sensor. One module is sufficient for most applications, saving time and material.

The RP 50 Digital Test Pump also shows how digital technology simplifies everyday work. It enables precise pressure tests and transmits test reports directly to the client via app. This saves time and avoids errors in the documentation.
